bobdog64 on "Error establishing a database connection"

First, I have an existing remote MySQL database that my current HTML website uses. I want to access this for my Wordpress site. So, I'm installing Wordpress and I get to the window that asks for
Database Name, User Name, Password, Database Host, and Table Prefix. I'm sure I have the remote database name and user name and password correct. The last two I leave default. So, I hit Submit and I get a window saying "Error establishing a database connection". If I go through PHP MyAdmin on Wamp, I can access the remote database just fine. Thanks for any help.
