Ok, so I'm an old C programmer trying to help a friend with their Wordpress site. I know some HTML and I'm not afraid to look around. But I can't figure out where/how to debug some problems. I'm having some strange errors that I'm attributing to possible hard coding... The following code appears on a page on the site - [blog category="8" count="3"... which I would have assumed should show 3 posts with a category of 8. But instead, it shows only posts that have the category of Blog. Also, there is not posts with a category of 8 (I don't even know what a category of 8 would mean..) Another problem that I have is that h1/h2/h3/h4/h5/h6 are all defined as all caps. I looked in the style sheet and changed it to be lowercase, but it must be over-ridden somewhere else.

My real question, is there a way that I can step through the code as it is executing to see where things are being set? Or how/where do I figure out how these files are executed or connected.

Pardon me my ignorance, but thanks for any help.
